ABOUT

Look-out-composite3

Look out is a public art project designed to delight and surprise the adventurous in Islington’s St George’s ward.  With the help of the local communities 3 artists have plotted the beginnings of an art trail.  The challenge was to create sculptural works which will tempt residents to venture beyond their regular beaten paths to explore unfamiliar parts of their own neighbourhood.

The three local artists and their respective installations are:

Nigel Goldie                    “Save the conker”

John O’Leary                  “Insectum”

Hinchee Hung                “Flock”

Concepts for the 3 installations were devised by the artists but their design and development relied on the enthusiasm and input of the local volunteers who sought them out.  This art project is funded by the Local Initiatives Fund of St George’s ward and hosted by the Hilldrop Community Centre.

The three public art installations share a theme – Transformation.  Each artist’s response to the theme was very different but in one respect they were similar.  All concepts had been designed to be installed in local trees after leaf fall this autumn.  The tree locations are marked on this map.

The work will remain in place until spring 2013 when they make way for new leaves in the trees
